Jim Detjen

Jim Detjen (M.S., Columbia University) holds the Knight Chair in Journalism at Michigan State University, where he also directs the Knight Center for Environmental Journalism. Winner of more than fifty reporting awards, Professor Detjen has over twenty years of experience as a professional newspaper reporter and editor. He began his career at The Poughkeepsie Journal and went on to cover scientific and environmental issues for The Philadelphia Inquirer and other newspapers. In 1997 The Earth Times rated him one of the 100 most influential people in the world on environmental and sustainable development issues. Professor Detjen is also the founding president of the U.S. Society of Environmental Journalists and a member of SEJ’s board of directors. He was one of the co-founders of the International Federation of Environmental Journalists and served as IFEJ’s president from 1994 to 2000.
