Irma Allen

Irma Allen (Ph.D., University of Arizona; M.A., University of Zimbabwe) is director of the Environment Authority for the Government of Swaziland’s Ministry of Tourism, Environment, and Communication. An internationally recognized environmental education specialist with more than 30 years of experience, she has concentrated on devising strategies for environmental education program development and implementation in Latin America and Africa. Dr. Allen has written numerous curricular materials for environmental education at the primary, secondary, and university levels, and has also developed and implemented education and training programs and public awareness campaigns. Her work in these areas has called for extensive and continuous liaison work with government ministries and agencies and nongovernmental organizations. In 1991 Ms. Allen was named to the United Nations Environmental Program’s Global 500 Honor Roll for her work in Swaziland.
